Head of school / Day Care Manager 's message
Dear Parents and Carers,
The children have had a very busy half term. They have enjoyed a variety of exciting and engaging activities. We explored baking activities together, developing mixing, measuring, and turn-taking skills while having lots of fun. The banana bread was delicious. Some of the younger children used the bananas to make banana smoothies, practising independence and learning about healthy foods. Outdoors, the children loved water play in the garden, splashing, pouring, and cooling off while enjoying the sunny weather. The children also showed great curiosity while learning about volcanoes, exploring how they erupt and discussing colours, textures, and reactions. We used maps to encourage early geographical awareness and conversations about places and directions.
We are looking forward to welcoming our nursery colleagues and children back from the half term break and hearing what they have been up to while away from Muriel Green.
Wishing you an amazing weekend!

Birch Room
Book & Rhyme of the week
Rhyme of the Week:
Pat-a-Cake – Children will enjoy joining in with clapping, rolling and patting actions, using repetition and anticipation during this familiar rhyme.
Focus Skill:
We are focusing on early communication and choice making, developing intentional communication, requesting, anticipation and making choices across familiar routines.
Ideas for Home:
Sing Pat-a-Cake together and pause before favourite actions or words to encourage your child to respond with gestures, sounds, signs or words. Offer simple choices such as “fast or slow?” or “again or finished?” to support communication. Repeating familiar rhymes within daily routines helps children build confidence in expressing their wants and needs.
Success Story of the Week!
In the Acorn room, the children and staff have been enjoying learning some simple British Sign Language (BSL) signs together to support early communication skills. The children have been practising signs for familiar words, feelings, and everyday routines, helping them to express their needs, choices, and emotions with growing confidence. This has also encouraged positive interactions, turn-taking, and listening skills within the room.
This links to the Early Years Foundation Stage outcomes by supporting Communication and Language, particularly listening, attention, understanding, and speaking, as well as Personal, Social and Emotional Development through building confidence, relationships, and self-expression. It has been a lovely week full of exploration, learning, and enjoyment for everyone.

All absences must be reported to the school either by leaving an absence message or emailing admin@murielgreen.herts.sch.uk, We politely ask that if you plan to take your child out during school time, you notify the Nursery office. For appointments, we ask where possible that these are not during the school day. If this is not avoidable, please kindly share the relevant information for this appointment in order for us to be able to authorise this. Regular attendance at Nursery is very important, as it helps children build the foundational knowledge and skills they will need as they move through school. Establishing good attendance habits now supports a smoother transition into primary school and helps ensure children develop positive routines that will benefit them throughout their educational journey. Thank you for your continued support in helping your child attend regularly and on time.
