Head of school / Day Care Manager 's message

Dear Parents and Carers,

We’ve had another busy and joyful week here at Muriel Green Nursery! This week, we’d like to give a special mention to our wonderful volunteer and ex-member of staff, Katrina, who has been working incredibly hard in the garden with the children. She has planted a variety of fruits and vegetables, and the children are already showing such enthusiasm as they begin to tend to the plants and eagerly watch for signs of growth. This time of year offers fantastic learning opportunities about nature, care, and the fascinating changes we see over time.

We do have a small housekeeping request:

Could all parents and carers please check through your children’s bags and return any items that don’t belong to you?

We have noticed a few pieces of clothing have gone missing recently, and it’s possible they may have been taken home by mistake. On this note, we kindly ask that all belongings brought into nursery are clearly labelled with your child’s name to help us keep things running smoothly.

Thank you as always for your cooperation and for supporting our community spirit. Wishing you and your families a lovely weekend!

Warmest regards,

Birch Room
BooK & Rhyme of the week

Rhyme of the Week: Cobbler, Cobbler Mend My shoe

Children will enjoy joining in with this repetitive rhyme, using actions and rhythm to support engagement and participation.

Ideas for Home:
Give your child opportunities to practise independence during daily routines, such as pulling up trousers, attempting fastenings or carrying their own cup. Use simple, consistent language and visual cues to guide each step. Encouraging “first/then” routines (e.g., first shoes on, then play) can help children understand sequences and build confidence in completing tasks.

Focus Skill:

We are focusing on independence, self-help and daily living skills, developing confidence in routines such as eating, toileting and following simple structured sequences.

Success Story of the Week!

This week in the Birch Room we have been celebrating the children’s growing confidence with fine motor skills and mark making. They have taken part in a range of activities to develop hand strength, coordination and imitation, including using crayons, chalks and pens to make different types of marks. The children have also enjoyed large-scale painting on big sheets of paper, exploring primary colours and making bold strokes and patterns. Through these structured adult-led activities and free exploration, the children are building important early writing skills in line with the EYFS focus on Physical Development and Literacy.
