Head of school message
What a lovely week we have had at Muriel Green, with the first autumn rain bringing some wonderful opportunities for exploration and creativity! The children have been busy experimenting with powder paint in the rain, watching with fascination as the colours mix, spread and change. It is these spontaneous moments that make learning so exciting, giving children the freedom to explore, investigate and discover in their own way. A little rain certainly doesn't stop the fun at Muriel Green!
A gentle reminder to our Nursery School families whose children will be starting Reception in September 2027. Primary school open days are now taking place, and the application process for Reception places is open. We would really encourage you to visit the schools you are considering, as it is a wonderful opportunity to get a feel for their environments and ask any questions you may have. The deadline for Reception applications is 15 January 2027, so please make sure you submit your application in good time.
Wishing all our Muriel Green families a lovely weekend!

Success Story of the Week!
Children in Nursery have fully immersed themselves in our story, The Little Red Hen. This week, they explored photographs of a real working watermill and enjoyed investigating flour through hands-on experiences. The children showed great curiosity and interest in how things work, developing their understanding of cause and effect as materials change.
Following on from baking bread last week, the children began discussing other things they could make using flour. When we asked, “Who will help me bake?”, they responded with great enthusiasm and eagerly joined in. Together, they baked delicious cakes and biscuits, enjoying every step of the process and taking pride in their creations.
These experiences support the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) outcomes by encouraging children to explore materials using their senses, talk about what they observe, and develop an understanding of the world around them. The children also strengthened their communication and language skills by sharing ideas, asking questions, and following instructions, while their physical development was enhanced through mixing, pouring, and handling baking tools.

All absences must be reported to the school either by leaving an absence message or emailing admin@murielgreen.herts.sch.uk, We politely ask that if you plan to take your child out during school time, you notify the Nursery office. For appointments, we ask where possible that these are not during the school day. If this is not avoidable, please kindly share the relevant information for this appointment in order for us to be able to authorise this. Regular attendance at Nursery is very important, as it helps children build the foundational knowledge and skills they will need as they move through school. Establishing good attendance habits now supports a smoother transition into primary school and helps ensure children develop positive routines that will benefit them throughout their educational journey. Thank you for your continued support in helping your child attend regularly and on time.
