Head of school / Day Care Manager 's message
Dear parents and carers
It has been another week of glorious sunshine, and despite the continued hot weather, the children have had a fantastic time! Our staff have once again gone above and beyond to provide exciting water play experiences both indoors and outdoors, ensuring the children have remained cool, engaged and full of smiles. It has been wonderful to see so much laughter, curiosity and learning as the children explored, splashed and played together.
This week has also been a very special one for our nursery children as many visited their new schools. Watching them head off so confidently on the next step of their journey was both a proud and emotional moment. It hardly seems possible how quickly the year has flown by. They have all grown so much during their time with us, and we couldn't be prouder of the kind, curious and capable young people they have become.
Finally, I need to make an important request regarding our buggy park. Despite previous reminders, we are still finding food and drinks being left in buggies. This is now attracting wildlife into the buggy storage area, creating both hygiene and safety concerns. Please ensure that all food, snacks and drinks are removed from buggies before leaving them in the buggy park. This is not optional and we ask all families to support us with immediate effect. Your cooperation is essential in helping us keep this area clean, safe and pleasant for everyone.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Next week, our Book of the Week is “Who’s Hiding in the Jungle?”
We’ll enjoy looking at the jungle pictures, listening to the story, and joining in with the surprises as we “find” the animals. This will support Communication and Language and Literacy in the EYFS Statutory Framework, helping children practise listening, talking about what they see, and becoming confident with books.
Our Rhyme of this week: 5 Little Monkeys Swinging in a Tree
Home Learning: This week at nursery we are focusing on the children to develop their independence during mealtimes by practising feeding themselves and drinking from an open cup.
At home, you could offer your child opportunities to feed themselves using finger foods or a spoon/fork. They may make a mess, but this is all part of their learning! Allowing them time to explore and practise helps to build their confidence, hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
Some of our older children will be supported to learn how to scrape their plate ready for their next transition into Conker room.

Birch Room
Book & Rhyme of the week
Rhyme of the Week:
Humpty Dumpty – Children will enjoy joining in with this familiar rhyme, using actions, repetition and anticipation as they take part in group singing.
Focus Skill:
We are focusing on transition to primary school and group learning routines, helping children develop independence, confidence in group activities, following classroom routines and completing tasks with increasing independence. As some of our children prepare to move on to primary school, we are supporting them to become more confident and ready for this exciting next step.
Ideas for Home:
Encourage your child to follow simple routines at home, such as getting dressed, tidying away toys or carrying out a one or two-step instruction independently. Talking positively about starting school and sharing books about school can help with preparation.
success of the week
The Nursery children have been fantastic gardeners, and our tomato plants are nearly ready to harvest! The children have shown great care and commitment by watering the plants regularly and observing the changes as they have grown from flowers into tiny green fruits, and then into bigger green tomatoes that are now beginning to ripen. This experience has supported learning in Understanding the World: The Natural World, as the children have explored what plants need to grow and talked about the changes they can see over time. As they worked together to care for the plants, the children demonstrated the Personal, Social and Emotional Development skills of responsibility, perseverance and caring for living things. We are all waiting patiently and looking forward to harvesting and tasting our home-grown tomatoes soon!

signs of the week

All absences must be reported to the school either by leaving an absence message or emailing admin@murielgreen.herts.sch.uk, We politely ask that if you plan to take your child out during school time, you notify the Nursery office. For appointments, we ask where possible that these are not during the school day. If this is not avoidable, please kindly share the relevant information for this appointment in order for us to be able to authorise this. Regular attendance at Nursery is very important, as it helps children build the foundational knowledge and skills they will need as they move through school. Establishing good attendance habits now supports a smoother transition into primary school and helps ensure children develop positive routines that will benefit them throughout their educational journey. Thank you for your continued support in helping your child attend regularly and on time.
