Head of school message
Dear parents and carers, It has been lovely to see Nursery School beginning to settle into the rhythm of the new term, while our Day care children continue to enjoy the familiar routines and experiences they have shared with us throughout the summer. Across Muriel Green, we are seeing children growing in confidence, strengthening relationships and becoming increasingly comfortable in their spaces. There has been lots of busy play, exploration and curiosity as the children begin to show us what interests and excites them – and we are looking forward to seeing where this takes their learning over the coming weeks.
A gentle reminder to please make sure all of your child’s belongings are clearly labelled with their name, including coats, jumpers, bags, water bottles and spare clothes. With so many children and lots of very similar belongings, clear labels make a huge difference in helping everything find its way back to the right family!

Book & Rhyme of the week
Next week we will carry on with our very much-loved loved story Car, Car, Truck, Jeep by Katrina Charman. The children are fascinated by the books visuals and sounds. A few already know a few pages by heart as we sing it with the tune of "Baa Baa Black Sheep". This is supporting their Communication, Language and their Expressive Art areas of learning.

Next week, our book of the week will be Colours of Ladybird. The children will explore different colours through this fun and colourful story, helping them to develop their colour recognition, language and listening skills.

Home Learning: Noticing colours
Creating colour baskets is a great way for the children to learn and explore colour. Fill baskets with safe objects all different colours and let babies explore, hold and investigate them whilst you name the colours: “Red!” “Look, red!”

Next week, our book of the week will be The Gruffalo. The children will listen to the story, join in with repeated phrases and talk about the characters and what happens. We will explore the story through role play, songs and creative activities.

Home Learning: Tidy-Up Treasure Hunt!
Make tidying fun! Ask your child to help find the toys that are “hiding” and return them to where they belong!
This helps children learn routines, follow simple instructions and understand that everything has a place.

Next week, our book of the week will continue to be Rosie’s Walk! The children will have fun retelling Rosie’s adventure and talking about what she sees along the way. We will explore animals, movement and the different places Rosie visits, while developing our storytelling and vocabulary skills.

Home Learning: Aware of the environment around us
Go for a walk like Rosie the hen from the story we read this week. Talk about the things you see on your walk. Where will you go? What will you go past? Look out for any animals on your walk. Make sure you get back in time for dinner!
Success Story of the Week!
Nursery Room has had a great start to the new school year. The children have settled so happily, and it has been wonderful to see them working and playing together as they explore the room and garden. They have enjoyed listening to and joining in with rhymes and stories, painting, building, imaginative play and physical activities in the garden. Through these experiences, the children are developing their Communication and Language skills by listening, understanding and expressing their ideas, while also developing Physical Development through active play. They are building positive relationships with adults and other children, supporting their Personal, Social and Emotional Development, and developing their independence as they take part in daily routines. The children are also beginning to explore and make sense of the world around them through their play and experiences. We are very proud of how well the children are doing and look forward to a happy and exciting year together.

All absences must be reported to the school either by leaving an absence message or emailing admin@murielgreen.herts.sch.uk, We politely ask that if you plan to take your child out during school time, you notify the Nursery office. For appointments, we ask where possible that these are not during the school day. If this is not avoidable, please kindly share the relevant information for this appointment in order for us to be able to authorise this. Regular attendance at Nursery is very important, as it helps children build the foundational knowledge and skills they will need as they move through school. Establishing good attendance habits now supports a smoother transition into primary school and helps ensure children develop positive routines that will benefit them throughout their educational journey. Thank you for your continued support in helping your child attend regularly and on time.
