Head of school / Day Care Manager 's message

Dear Parents and Carers, What a wonderful week we’ve shared at Muriel Green Nursery! The children have been immersed in a host of engaging activities, from creative arts and crafts to lively story sessions and exciting outdoor explorations. It’s always such a joy to see the children’s enthusiasm and curiosity flourish as they discover new skills and form friendships. After half term in Nursery School we will be looking at different celebrations. We would love your support with this! If you have any lovely photos of your family celebrating special occasions, birthdays, religious events, cultural festivals, or any moments that are meaningful to you, please send photos in. These photos will really help us bring the learning to life and support the children’s understanding of the many wonderful ways families celebrate.

A gentle reminder: next week is half term for Nursery School, so we will be closed. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 23rd February.

Thank you as always for your ongoing support and for being such an important part of our Muriel Green community.

Different books.PNG

Next week our books of the week will help us learn about some special celebrations: Chinese New Year, Pancake Day and Ramadan. We will share simple stories and pictures to talk about different traditions, foods and ways that families celebrate. This supports children’s Understanding the World and Personal, Social and Emotional Development.

Our Keywords are Flip, Dragon, date(Fruits)

Our Rhyme this week is "Five Crispy Pancakes"

 â€‹â€‹â€‹

Home Learning:

Making pancakes together is a fun way to use mathematical language, such as how many/whole/half/etc. Talk about the shape of the pancake and if they can find the same shape anywhere else.

Next week our book and song of the week will be “Horsey Horsey, Don’t You Stop.” We’ll be singing the rhyme, adding actions and exploring toy horses and carriages to support children’s Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. Repeating familiar rhymes helps build children’s confidence, listening skills and early memory.

Home Learning: Posting Games

Can you make a container with a slot (like a wipes box) and let them post large pom-poms, socks, or chunky shapes inside? This is great for hand eye coordination and strengthens their pincer grips.

Book & Rhyme of the week

Rhyme of the Week: Humpty Dumpty
Children will enjoy listening to and joining in with this familiar rhyme, using actions, anticipation and shared attention during key moments of the song.

Ideas for Home:

Share Humpty Dumpty together and pause before the “great fall” to give your child time to anticipate, gesture or vocalise. Offer simple choices (e.g. “again or finished?”) and model words, signs or actions to support requesting. Repeating the rhyme and waiting for your child’s response helps build confidence in intentional communication.

Focus Skill:

We are focusing on early communication, supporting choice-making and requesting through adult modelling, turn-taking, anticipation and simple people games.

Success Story of the Week!

This week, Conker Room’s success was continuing our work with the book Dinosaur Roar. The children used their imaginations to draw their own dinosaurs and carefully cut them out using child-friendly scissors, developing fine motor skills and hand–eye coordination. We talked about how to use scissors safely and practised waiting for our turn, supporting social and emotional development. Later, we created a story map together. The children revisited the story and helped Veronique choose which dinosaurs to place on the timeline. Their work joined the dinosaur footprints painted last week, creating a wonderful display of our story.
