Head of school / Day Care Manager 's message
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week in Nursery School and Day care, the children have truly let their imaginations soar! Both indoors and out, we’ve seen some incredible creative play, with the children embarking on countless journeys and transforming their surroundings into imaginative worlds. Whether they’ve been building, role-playing, or inventing new adventures together, it has been wonderful to watch their ideas come to life and see friendships blossom through cooperative play.
A quick reminder for all families: please do not leave any food items in the buggy store. Food left behind can attract squirrels and rats, so we ask for your help in keeping our nursery environment safe and clean for everyone.
Thank you for your continued support and for nurturing such a vibrant, imaginative community here at Muriel Green.
Big thank you for all the grandparents that joined us today to see their grandchildren in the rooms or garden.
Wishing you a fantastic weekend!

This week is about supporting independence during meal times. We are encouraging the children to use a spoon or fork during their mealtimes to feed them selves. We will be doing activities such as scooping practice in play with spoons and bowls. This can also be encouraged at bath time to scoop with spoons and cups in the water. Some of our babies our currently achieving this milestone so their next target is drinking from an open cup. This can get very messy!!! but it is so important for their development. BooK & Rhyme of the week
Rhyme of the Week: Pop goes the Weasel
Children will enjoy joining in with the rhyme’s repetitive rhythm and exciting “POP!” moment, using movement, anticipation and shared laughter throughout.
Focus Skill:
We are focusing on social communication and interaction, developing shared attention, turn-taking and early peer interaction through structured play and adult modelling.
Ideas for Home:
Sing the rhyme together and use actions, rhythm and pauses to help your child anticipate what comes next. You could explore calming sensory activities such as gentle bouncing, deep pressure hugs or listening to steady rhythms and sounds. Keeping routines predictable and using familiar songs can help children feel secure, regulated and ready to engage.
Success Story of the Week!
This week, the children in Conker Room explored planting, vegetables, and the changing spring weather. Through discussions and hands-on activities, the children learnt about a variety of spring vegetables and discovered different ways plants can grow and thrive.(Understanding the World)
As part of our learning experience, the group visited the St Albans Street Market where they carefully selected carrots, onions, and beetroots from a local vendor. Back at nursery, the children used the vegetables creatively in a range of activities. They enjoyed vegetable stamping and printing, experimented with beetroot juice as natural paint, and placed some vegetables in water to observe root growth over time. The children also had the opportunity to taste the carrots and were delighted that “there were no tears from the onions!”
The children are very excited to continue observing the progress of the growing vegetables and to explore the many ways vegetables can be used through play, creativity, and healthy eating experiences. This week’s activities supported the children’s learning and development in several areas learning such as (Understanding the World, Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development)

All absences must be reported to the school either by leaving an absence message or emailing admin@murielgreen.herts.sch.uk, We politely ask that if you plan to take your child out during school time, you notify the Nursery office. For appointments, we ask where possible that these are not during the school day. If this is not avoidable, please kindly share the relevant information for this appointment in order for us to be able to authorise this. Regular attendance at Nursery is very important, as it helps children build the foundational knowledge and skills they will need as they move through school. Establishing good attendance habits now supports a smoother transition into primary school and helps ensure children develop positive routines that will benefit them throughout their educational journey. Thank you for your continued support in helping your child attend regularly and on time.
