Head of school / Day Care Manager 's message

Dear Parents and Carers,

What an exhilarating week it has been at Muriel Green Nursery! The children have been filled with curiosity and awe as we’ve welcomed not only chick eggs, but also duck eggs into our setting. Watching the eggs hatch has been a truly magical experience—there have been so many moments of excitement, wonder, and gentle care as the children observed new life beginning right before their eyes.

This hands-on learning opportunity has sparked fantastic conversations about life cycles, growth, and how we care for living things. The children have enjoyed taking turns to look after the chicks and ducklings, observing how they change and thrive each day. These experiences help build empathy, responsibility, and a deeper sense of connection with the natural world.

We are so proud of how engaged and kind the children have been, and it’s been lovely to witness their thoughtful questions and shared discoveries as the chicks and ducklings explore their new home with us.

A gentle reminder: please do not put any medicine or creams in your child’s book bag. Instead, hand these in at the office so they can be signed in and safely monitored.

Thank you for your continued support and for sharing in these special moments with us. Wishing you a restful and happy weekend!

Warmest regards,

Next week our book of the week will be Owl Babies by Martin Waddell. We will be using this lovely story to support the children’s communication and language, early literacy and personal, social and emotional development. Through the story, we will talk about feelings such as missing our grown‑ups and feeling safe when they return, as well as noticing the owls and their woodland home.

Our Keywords are Twig, Brave, Feather.

Our Rhyme this week is "Tidy up Song"

Home Learning: Twisting Skill

At home let your child help twist open/close plastic water bottles or yoghurt drink lids or use big, easy-to-turn lids (e.g. coffee jar, hot chocolate tin).

Acorn Room
Book & Rhyme of the week

Next week our book of the week will be Gruffalo Growl.

We will use this story to develop the children’s communication and language, early reading skills and personal, social and emotional development. The children will have opportunities to join in with repeated phrases, explore loud and quiet “growls” and talk about the different characters and feelings in the story.

Our Rhyme of this week: Head Shoulder Knee and Toe

Home Learning: Physical Development

We will be taking a real focus on getting children to be confident on their feet and to take steps. A little tip for at home: Bare foot is always best when inside to help support balance and better grip.

Book & Rhyme of the week

Next week our book of the week will continue to be Jasper’s Beanstalk. We will keep using this story to support the children’s communication and language, early reading skills and understanding the world. The children will have further opportunities to talk about what plants need to grow, look after their own bean plants and sequence the days of the week from the story. We will plan related play and practical activities to build vocabulary, story recall and curiosity about nature.

Our Keywords are Dug, Waited and Planted

Our rhyme of the week is Mary Mary quite Contrary

Home Learning: Mark Making

Tape some old wrapping paper or a large piece of cardboard to the floor or table. Offer your child a few chunky crayons, washable felt tips or paint sticks. Let them make lines, circles and scribbles freely.

Birch Room
BooK & Rhyme of the week

Rhyme of the Week:
Children will enjoy marching up and down, stopping and starting, and joining in with the actions to bring the rhyme to life.

Ideas for Home:
Sing the rhyme together and encourage your child to march, stop and change direction along with the song. You could practise walking up and down small slopes, steps or safe surfaces to build confidence. Simple games that involve stopping and starting help develop balance, control and awareness of their body in space.

Focus Skill:

We are focusing on physical development and mobility, developing gross motor skills, balance and body awareness through motivating movement activities, adult modelling and structured physical play.

Success Story of the Week!

This week in the Acorn Room we have been so impressed with how well our babies have settled. We are already seeing lots more confidence and independence as they explore the room, resources and outdoor space. There have been many lovely interactions between the children, with our little ones helping new friends to feel calm and safe, and beginning to share smiles, toys and simple games together. These positive relationships and growing independence link closely to prime area of Personal, Social and Emotional Development. We are very proud of our little learners and the fantastic start they are making to their nursery journey.
