Head of school message
Dear parents and carers, It has been lovely to see the children continuing to settle into their classrooms and becoming increasingly familiar with the routines of the day. We are seeing lots of positive interactions, growing confidence and children beginning to understand what to expect throughout their daily experiences. This week the children have particularly enjoyed exploring a range of sensory play experiences within their classrooms. Sensory play provides wonderful opportunities for children to explore different textures, smells, sounds and materials, while developing their curiosity, communication and early learning skills. It has been fantastic to see and hear the children becoming more confident as they explore, make choices and engage with their friends and the practitioners. We are looking forward to seeing their confidence and enthusiasm continue to grow.

Book & Rhyme of the week
Next week, we will start a new theme around new arrivals. There's a House inside my Mummy is a gentle story about kindness, waiting and imagining the new brother or sister. We will use this book as our theme to talk about body parts and learn how people change, from a baby all the way to adulthood. This will support their Understanding of the World and Communication and Language development.

Home Learning: Stacking Skill
. Provide coasters, Tupperware boxes, books for them to stack.
. How many cushions can you stack without them falling?
Also, could you please send family photos of yourselves at different stages of your life: baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult (these are suggestions only). The children will be able to observe and learn that their significant adults were also babies and children once.

Next week's Book of the Week is "Peppa at the Petting Farm"! We'll be reading, talking about farm animals, and enjoying farm-themed fun. Throughout the week, we'll be reading and revisiting the story together, encouraging the children to talk about the animals, their sounds, and their features.

This week we would love you to spend some time exploring animals together, simple talk, singing and animal sounds following your child's interest. If your child is interested in playing with toy animals, reading a book with animals in or seeing any animals whilst their out, we would love for you to send us a photo to share with Acorn room

Our next week's Book of the Week continues to be "The Gruffalo"! We'll be exploring it further, revisiting the characters and their journey through the deep, dark wood. We'll continue with story-linked activities such as sensory trays, mark making, and role play to bring the tale to life, helping the children deepen their understanding and vocabulary.

Home Learning: Squeezing Skill
Give your toys a wash in the bath or at the sink. Squeeze sponges and flannels in the water to help develop strong muscles in the hands and fingers. If you have some spray bottles you can fill them with water and squeeze the trigger to give your toys a shower too.
Success Story of the Week!
This week in the Acorn Room, our skill of the week has been pinching, and to help develop this important skill, the children were given paintbrushes and paint, encouraging them to use their pinching grip to pick up the brushes and explore mark making with paint, concentrating and practising their grip as they experimented with colours and movement across the paper. This links to the Early Years Foundation Stag Statutory Framework, supporting Physical Development through developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination needed for a pincer grip, and Expressive Arts and Design through exploring colour, texture, and mark making. Early Years Outcome: by practising their pinching grip through fun, hands-on activities like this, children build the fine motor strength and control needed to confidently hold and use tools such as paintbrushes, pencils, and cutlery, supporting their independence and readiness for future writing skills. Well done, Acorn Room — what a fantastic success this week!

All absences must be reported to the school either by leaving an absence message or emailing admin@murielgreen.herts.sch.uk, We politely ask that if you plan to take your child out during school time, you notify the Nursery office. For appointments, we ask where possible that these are not during the school day. If this is not avoidable, please kindly share the relevant information for this appointment in order for us to be able to authorise this. Regular attendance at Nursery is very important, as it helps children build the foundational knowledge and skills they will need as they move through school. Establishing good attendance habits now supports a smoother transition into primary school and helps ensure children develop positive routines that will benefit them throughout their educational journey. Thank you for your continued support in helping your child attend regularly and on time.
