Head of school / Day Care Manager 's message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Spring has definitely sprung at Muriel Green this week! The children have loved the sunny, warm weather and have taken full advantage of it with some wonderful water play. These joyful moments outdoors have not only supported their physical development, but also given them opportunities to strengthen their friendships and work together in creative play, with lots of laughter along the way.
This week, we also came together as a nursery community to “Rock Your Socks” in support of Down Syndrome Awareness Day. The effort and enthusiasm shown by staff and children alike was truly heart warming. Seeing everyone celebrate what makes us unique, while standing together in bright and colourful socks, was a clear reminder of the values that make our community so special. We are incredibly proud of how our children show kindness, acceptance, and respect for everyone. We feel incredibly lucky to have such a supportive community of families and staff working together to help every child thrive.
Wishing you a lovely weekend!

The children will be encouraged to point, name and match colours through fun games and creative activities.
Our Keywords are Fluttered, hoovered and Rainbow

Acorn Room
Book & Rhyme of the week
Next week our book of the week will be Leo the Lion Roar!
We will be using this story to support the children’s language and communication skills by joining in with repeated phrases(Communication and Language). The story will also help us explore being brave, trying new things and using our “big voices” in a safe, playful way.
Our Rhyme of this week: Leo the Lion
Home Learning: Communication and Language
We are encouraging the children to explore and use sounds during their play. For example, when playing with cars, we model simple sounds like “brrrm” to help build early communication skills.
For children who use BSL, we support this by signing key words such as “car” or phrases like “ready, steady, go”.
Modelling simple language and signs during play helps children to develop their understanding and build new vocabulary in a fun and meaningful way.You can do this at home by joining in with your child’s play, copying sounds, and introducing simple words or signs.

Willow Room

Book & Rhyme of the week
Next week we will be continuing our book of the week, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The story helps us explore healthy eating, changes over time and life cycles as we think about how the caterpillar grows into a butterfly (Understanding the World). Linked activities such as fruit tasting, creative artwork and mark making will further support the EYFS areas of Expressive Arts and Design and Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
Our Keywords are Caterpillar, Chrysalis, Butterfly, Cocoon, Moth, Hungry.
Our rhyme of the week is "There’s a Worm at the Bottom of the Garden
Home Learning: Insect Hunt 🐞
Go outside with your child (garden or park) and look for insects! Encourage them to spot, count, and describe what they find—colours, size, and how they move.
You could also draw your favourite insect afterwards.
Please remind children to be gentle and kind to living things 🌱

Birch Room
Book & Rhyme of the week
Focus Skill: We are focusing on social communication and interaction, supporting reciprocal play, peer awareness, turn-taking, understanding emotions and developing early self-advocacy.
Ideas for Home: Sing the rhyme together and take turns being the “worm” popping up at the end. Simple turn-taking games, copying actions and making funny voices can help build shared attention and connection. Talking about feelings and encouraging your child to express what they like or want can also help develop confidence in communicating with others.
Rhyme of the Week: There’s a Worm at the Bottom of the Garden.
Children will enjoy joining in with this playful rhyme, using actions, voices and facial expressions as the worm pops up from the garden.

Success Story of the Week!
This week in Willow, our big success was the new building corner. An adult carefully set up the area with a mix of big and small wooden blocks, high‑vis jackets and builder hats to spark the children’s imagination. The children had great fun taking on the role of builders, planning and constructing together. They worked as a team to build a large platform, negotiating ideas and sharing resources. This activity supported the EYFS areas of Physical Development (through lifting and balancing blocks), Communication and Language, and Personal, Social and Emotional Development through teamwork and turn-taking.
