Head of school / Day Care Manager 's message
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have seen how much the children have been enjoying the sunshine and making the most of their time in the garden. It has been wonderful to watch them play together, explore the new areas, and discover new outdoor adventures each day. The garden is truly a special space where friendships grow, imaginations flourish, and physical skills develop. We are hoping the weather will continue to be as good next week, temperatures are likely to be high so please remember to apply sun cream and send your children in with named sunhats to enable them to enjoy the sunshine safely.
For those of you who will be away for the half term break we look forward to hearing about your adventures when you return the following week
Wishing you an amazing weekend!

Next week, we will carry on our story book Dachy's Deaf by Jack Hughes. The children will follow Dachy on his adventure through a wild and challenging landscape. They will witness how Dachy’s friends help him to a happy ending. This will support their Literacy development, their Personal, Social and Emotional development as well as their Communication and Language skills.
Our Keywords are Sound, Noisy and Quietly
Our Rhyme this week is We are the dinosaurs
Home Learning:
This week, we have been practising threading during our Busy Fingers sessions.
-
Use pieces of drinking straws or pasta tubes and string to make bracelets/necklaces.
-
Walk to the park and collect leaves to thread on a bamboo skewer which had its pointy tip cut off.
-
Give dry spaghetti to thread through the holes of an upside-down colander.
Acorn Room
Book & Rhyme of the week
Next week, our Book of the Week will be The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.
The babies will enjoy looking at the colourful pictures, listening to simple words and sounds from the story, and exploring sensory and messy play activities linked to the book.
Our Rhyme of this week: Little Caterpillar
Home Learning:
This week is about supporting independence during meal times. We are encouraging the children to use a spoon or fork during their mealtimes to feed them selves. We will be doing activities such as scooping practice in play with spoons and bowls. This can also be encouraged at bath time to scoop with spoons and cups in the water. Some of our babies our currently achieving this milestone so their next target is drinking from an open cup. This can get very messy!!! but it is so important for their development. Let us know how your little ones are getting on at home too ☺️

Willow Room/Nursery school
Book & Rhyme of the week

Next week our story of the week will be The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We will use this much‑loved book to explore the lifecycle of a butterfly, days of the week and counting food items, supporting Understanding the World and early Maths. The repeated language in the story will help develop children’s Communication and Language and early Literacy skills.
Our Keywords are Cocoon, Egg, butterfly
Our rhyme of the week is Little Caterpillar
Home Learning: Squeeze
You could set up a simple “squeeze station” at home.
Give your child a bowl of warm soapy water and a sponge, flannel or small sponge ball. Encourage them to dip it in, then squeeze out as much water as they can into another container. You can turn it into a fun game: “Can you squeeze all the water out?” or “How many squeezes will it take to fill the cup?” This helps to strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers, supporting early writing and self‑care skills.
Nursery Room
Book & Rhyme of the week
Next week our book of the week will be Rain Before Rainbows. We will use this beautiful story to talk about feelings, change and hope, helping children understand that difficult times can lead to brighter days. Through the book we will explore colours, weather, and journeys, linking to Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Understanding the World
Our Keywords are Rainbow, Map and Mountains
Our rhyme of the week is Rainbow Song
Home Learning: Stacking
You could create a simple “stacking challenge” using everyday items at home.
Offer your child a selection of safe objects to stack, such as plastic cups, empty cartons, building blocks, or cushion pads. Encourage them to build a tower and see how high they can make it before it wobbles or falls. You might ask, “Can you make it taller?” or “What happens if we put the big ones at the bottom?”

Success Story of the Week!
The children in the Nursery room were very excited when a large delivery of outdoor play resources arrived in the garden. They eagerly explored the new equipment, which included different-sized blocks, planks, logs, poles, wheels, guttering and crates. Using their imagination, they built houses, shops, castles, trains, buses, rockets and more (Expressive Arts and Design). There was fantastic teamwork as they worked together, sharing ideas and negotiating roles (Communication and Language ). The children have been highly engaged and focused, spending long periods of time exploring and playing with the new resources.

All absences must be reported to the school either by leaving an absence message or emailing admin@murielgreen.herts.sch.uk, We politely ask that if you plan to take your child out during school time, you notify the Nursery office. For appointments, we ask where possible that these are not during the school day. If this is not avoidable, please kindly share the relevant information for this appointment in order for us to be able to authorise this. Regular attendance at Nursery is very important, as it helps children build the foundational knowledge and skills they will need as they move through school. Establishing good attendance habits now supports a smoother transition into primary school and helps ensure children develop positive routines that will benefit them throughout their educational journey. Thank you for your continued support in helping your child attend regularly and on time.
