Head of school / Day Care Manager 's message
As the last week of the summer holidays comes to an end we reflect on the last 6 weeks. We have had some extremely hot days, very little rain, spent plenty of time in the garden and been practicing and developing our gross motor skills which culminated in our sports activities afternoon today. Throughout the holidays children have enjoyed a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, including water play, creative experiences, physical activities, sensory exploration, cooking and have spent time in the woodland walk looking for minibeasts and exploring the natural environment.
Children have been supported to make their own choices, try new experiences, share and take turns, have their own ideas and continue to develop their independence.
We look forward to a new term starting and to welcoming our friends and colleagues back from the summer break

We now have day care sessions available each week, offered on the ad-hoc basis with no weekly commitment required. Availability may wary, the table below details next week's available sessions.

Book & Rhyme of the week
Next week, we will carry on reading and expanding on our story, Kipper's Toybox by Mick Inkpen. The children will decide what makes a cosy corner and create one for themselves to read or play. This will support their Personal, Social and Emotional development by understanding how we feel in different environments and how to make one with our own needs and taste. We will also look at different containers and their names, such as baskets, crates or boxes that we have in our nursery. This will introduce or reinforce new words and their meaning for the children.

Use an old cereal box, making a slit and give your child cut-out of pictures from a magazine to post or cut paper shapes.

Place an upside-down colander on a flat surface and give dry spaghetti to post in the holes. Please make sure you supervise this activity as little children might put the pointy spaghetti in their mouth.

This touching tale of a boy and a penguin is a wonderful way for us to explore themes of friendship, empathy, and what it means to help someone who might be feeling a little bit lonely. We will be basing lots of our fun activities around this lovely journey across the sea.

Get ready for some rhyming fun! Next week, our Book of the Week will be the hilarious 'Oi!' collection by Kes Gray and Jim Field.
These wonderfully silly stories, like 'Oi Frog!' and 'Oi Dog!', are fantastic for helping children to hear and play with sounds in words, which is a brilliant first step in learning to read (Literacy).

Nursery school success of the week
What a fantastic Success Day, we've had celebrating our wonderful Sports Day!
We saw so much brilliant effort and energy from everyone. Outside, the children showed amazing skill as they navigated the obstacle course, kicked balls with all their might, and aimed for hoops and baskets. This was a super fun way to develop their balance, coordination, and whole-body movements (Physical Development).
Inside, the fun continued with activities that challenged our control and concentration. We practised throwing bean bags, batting 'tennis' balloons, scooping, and even kicking cans! Throughout all the activities, we were so proud of the children's determination and the wonderful encouragement they showed for their friends (Personal, Social and Emotional Development)
A huge and heartfelt thank you to all our wonderful parents and families.
Your fantastic support during our Sports Day today was truly amazing. Seeing so many of you cheering the children on and helping to create such a joyful and encouraging atmosphere makes these events so special for everyone. It's this wonderful partnership between home and nursery that helps our community thrive and makes your children feel so supported and celebrated in everything they do.

All absences must be reported to the school either by leaving an absence message or emailing admin@murielgreen.herts.sch.uk, We politely ask that if you plan to take your child out during school time, you notify the Nursery office. For appointments, we ask where possible that these are not during the school day. If this is not avoidable, please kindly share the relevant information for this appointment in order for us to be able to authorise this. Regular attendance at Nursery is very important, as it helps children build the foundational knowledge and skills they will need as they move through school. Establishing good attendance habits now supports a smoother transition into primary school and helps ensure children develop positive routines that will benefit them throughout their educational journey. Thank you for your continued support in helping your child attend regularly and on time.
