Head of school / Day Care Manager 's message

Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s been another successful and joyful week here at Muriel Green Nursery!

We are so proud of how the children have settled into their routines, explored new activities, and shared so much laughter and curiosity with their friends. Every day, we see growing confidence, independence, and plenty of those special ‘wow’ moments that make our nursery such a wonderful place to learn and grow.

A gentle reminder to all our families: if your child becomes unwell and develops a temperature while at nursery, our dedicated team will of course keep them comfortable and cared for until you are able to collect them. We kindly ask that you collect your child as soon as possible in these instances, so they can rest and recover at home. Your support in this matter helps us keep our nursery community healthy and happy.

Thank you as always for your partnership, trust, and for being such a valued part of our Muriel Green family. We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Birch Room
Book & Rhyme of the week

Rhyme of the Week: Polly Put the Kettle On
Children will explore Polly Put the Kettle On through singing, listening and simple, repetitive actions. Adults will model gestures, facial expression and simple BSL signs to support understanding and engagement. Children may join in by watching, moving, vocalising, smiling or responding in their own way. The rhyme will be linked to familiar daily routines such as snack time and shared activities.

Focus Skill: Independence Self-Help & Daily Living
We are gently supporting early independence skills linked to eating, drinking, toileting readiness and daily routines. This will focus on exposure, familiarity, tolerance and participation. Adults will model actions and respond to each child’s individual communication cues.

Ideas for Home:

  • Support your child with using utensils at mealtimes and modelling.

  • Support toileting readiness by building awareness of routines (pulling trousers up and down at nappy change times, visiting the bathroom at regular times, naming actions with signs or symbols).

  • Encourage your child to make simple choices wherever possible, such as choosing between two cups, snacks or items of clothing, using eye gaze, reaching or gestures.

  • Offer lots of praise and reassurance for any engagement or attempt, no matter how small.

Success Story of the Week!

This week’s success in Acorn Room has been all about “crunchy” exploration!                        The children have loved exploring rice and cornflakes with their hands. They have been touching, crushing and moving the crunchy pieces, which supports their Physical Development as they strengthen their little hands and fingers. The children have also been closely watching what happens as the rice and cornflakes move and break, developing curiosity and early thinking skills linked to Understanding the World.
