Head of school / Day Care Manager 's message
Welcome back to all our families, and a very Happy New Year from everyone at Muriel Green Nursery! It has been wonderful to see the returning children settle so quickly back into their routines, they have truly hit the ground running with their learning and play. We are also delighted to welcome our new starters, who are already exploring their new environment with enthusiasm and beginning to form lovely relationships with both the adults and their peers.
A very important reminder for our Nursery Room parents: if your child is due to start Reception in September 2026, the deadline for school applications is 15th January 2026. Should you need any support or guidance with the application process, please do not hesitate to contact our office. We are here to help and ensure this transition is as smooth as possible.
Thank you for your ongoing support and for being such an important part of our Muriel Green community!

Book & Rhyme of the week
Rhyme of the Week:
If You’re Happy and You Know It – In line with our focus next week on Physical Development and gross motor skills, children will join in with actions such as clapping, stamping, jumping and waving, using movement, facial expression and simple BSL signs.

Focus Skill:
We are supporting physical development and mobility, including balance, whole-body movement, coordination, body awareness and confidence in joining group activities. We will have a range of equipment being used for balancing, crawling, climbing and sliding!

Ideas for Home:
Have fun singing the rhyme of the week together and encourage your child to copy actions. Try simple movement games like clapping, stamping or jumping on the spot. You could also look in the mirror and practise “happy faces” and simple feelings to build confidence in expression and communication. You may also like to set small, safe physical challenges at home such as balancing along a line, stepping over cushions or practising careful steps up and down.
Success Story of the Week!
This week has been a wonderful start to the new term. The children have come back to nursery happy, settled and full of stories about their Christmas holidays. It has been lovely to see friendships pick up where they left off, with the children playing, exploring and learning together so confidently. Staff have really enjoyed welcoming everyone back into the setting and seeing how excited the children are to rejoin their routines. We are proud of how well they have returned to nursery life and are looking forward to all the learning and fun the rest of the term will bring.
