Head of school message

We are excited to share that this year we have developed a new curriculum across the Federation. This curriculum provides a clear, sequenced learning journey for all our children—starting from the moment they join the Acorn Room at Muriel Green, through to the end of their time in Nursery School.

Our dedicated staff bring this curriculum to life through fun, engaging, and hands-on activities, making full use of outdoor learning, visits, and visitors to enrich the children’s experiences. Alongside this, we have developed our own 'Milestone Assessment', designed to assess children against the key skills, knowledge, and language delivered through the curriculum.

Over the months of June and July, we will be sharing your child's 'Milestone Assessment' with you. This will be followed by a catch-up call where we’ll celebrate your child’s achievements, discuss the assessment in more detail, and consider next steps in their learning. For the month of June there will be no catch up calls / catch up emails whilst staff work on these assessments. However, if you do need to speak to a member of staff please do get in touch.

We are so proud to have such a well-rounded and cohesive curriculum and assessment system in place for all our children. We look forward to hearing your feedback and continuing to work in partnership to support your child’s development.

Conker Room
Book & Rhyme of the week

This week, we are excited to read the adventure of "Where's Spot?" by Eric Hill. This lift-the-flap book is always a favourite. We will encourage children to join in the search for the puppy, Spot. Through this story, children will explore the themes of discovery and curiosity, whilst developing language.

Our Keywords are "Outside", "Clock", and Basket".

Our Rhyme this week is  "The Grand Old Duke of York' where we will be focusing on positional language - specifically the  words 'Up and Down.'

Home Learning: Recognising Numbers!

If you're out and about with your child—perhaps on a walk—see if you can spot numbers in the environment, (for example numbers on doors, signs, or in shop windows.) It's a fun way to start noticing numbers in everyday places!

We're excited to introduce the book of the week  "Where's the Doctor?". This story explores the role of doctors and the concept of caring for others.

 â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Our Rhyme this week is "Miss Polly had a Dolly".

Home Learning: Encourage Independence

We invite you to involve your child in the early stages of getting dressed. Encourage them to try pulling down their top independently with your gentle guidance.

This activity helps support their motor skills and gives them a sense of achievement.

Our Keywords are "Comics", "Roar", "Monster" and "Garden"

Our rhyme of the week is "Ten in a bed"

Home Learning: Develop gross motor skill

To support the development of gross motor skills at home, we suggest finding a garden, an outside area or local park. where you can encourage your child to engage in running, climbing, or balancing in a safe and supervised space. If the weather is wet why not set up an obstacle course indoors using pillows to climb over, blankets to crawl under and chairs to go through!

Nursery School
Book & Rhyme of the week

This week, we will introduce "Lost and Found" by Oliver Jeffers as our Book of the Week. It's a great story that explores the themes of friendship and adventure.

Throughout the week, your child will engage in activities that involve retelling the story, as well as creating and sharing their own stories inspired by it. This promotes language development, creativity, and confidence in storytelling.

Our Keywords are "Floated", "Harbour", "Delighted", "Lonely" and "Searched"

Our rhyme of the week is "Everyboday do this just like me"

Home Learning:  Physical Activity

Enjoy physical play outside in the sunshine. Practice throwing and catching balls. Make sure your eyes are open and looking at the ball and your hand ready to catch. If the weather changes you can practice throwing and catching indoor with a rolled up pair of socks or teddy bear instead.

Badger's Band.PNG

This week, we are thrilled to introduce "Badger's Band" as our Book of the Week. This story is a lively tale of friendship and the joy of making music together.

As we explore this book, your child will engage with themes of teamwork and creativity, enhancing their language and listening skills.

Our rhyme of the week is "Everybody do this"

Home Learning:  Listen to different instruments/Sounds

You can explore a variety of musical sounds using resources in the home; for example banging saucepans with spoons! You could also find online resources like videos of bands or music apps, or even by playing any instruments you may have at home.

Success Story of the Week!

We experienced a truly delightful week, with the highlight being our sessions with Grandparents. It was such a pleasure to see so many of you joining us, bringing a great sense of community to our nursery. The children were thrilled to share their learning with their grandparents, and they loved giving guided tours of the different areas.

We felt a touch of sadness as we bid farewell to our chicks and ducks. Watching them hatch and grow has been a wonderful experience for the children, developing their understanding of life cycles and promoting responsibility and empathy. We're comforted knowing they've found a lovely new home where they'll continue to grow and thrive.
