Head of school / Day Care Manager 's message

Hello parents. we hope you are having a lovely week!

We are delighted to share that the children have had a fantastic time at Muriel Green Nursery, exploring and learning together as always.

This week, some of the children have been busy working on measuring and using the language of measure in their play. Whether it was comparing the height of towers in the construction area or talking about which jug held more water at the water table, we’ve really enjoyed listening to their conversations and noticing their growing confidence using new words like “tallest”, “shortest”, “longer”, and “heavier”.

A gentle reminder, arriving on time each day is so important. Every moment in nursery is a valuable learning opportunity, and we want every child to start their day feeling settled and included. When children arrive after the day has begun, it can sometimes be a little unsettling for them. By arriving on time, you’re helping your child get the very best start and supporting a smooth, happy beginning to their day.

Thank you as always for your support and for being such an important part of our school community. If you have any questions or want to talk about your child’s experiences, please do get in touch or chat to us at drop-off or pick-up. We’re here for you and your child.

Wishing you all a restful weekend,

Rhyme of the Week: Brush Your Teeth
Children will explore the rhyme Brush Your Teeth through listening, repetition and simple actions. Adults will model brushing actions, facial expressions and simple BSL signs to support understanding. Children may engage by watching, copying movements, vocalising, smiling, or responding in their own individual way. The rhyme will be linked to familiar daily routines to help build understanding and predictability.

Focus Skill: Communication & Social InteractionWe are supporting early communication and social interaction skills, including turn-taking, social play, use of signs or early words, making choices, expressing feelings, and interacting with peers. This focuses on shared attention, imitation, anticipation and responding to others.

Ideas for Home:

  • Share the tooth-brushing routine together, allowing your child to watch, explore or copy actions in their own way. This might include holding the toothbrush, touching it, or watching you model brushing.

  • Use simple words, signs or visuals such as “brush”, “my turn”, “your turn” and “all done” to support understanding and turn-taking.

Success Story of the Week!

.This has been the success of the week in Nursery School. The children have really engaged with our core story Jack and the Beanstalk. There has been lots of enthusiastic retelling and acting out, with imaginative role play as stomping giants shouting “Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum!” in the garden. Children have begun to innovate their own versions of the story with different characters, and some have drawn simple story maps to show what happens. We have also planted our own beans and are carefully watching them grow.

These experiences support EYFS outcomes in Communication and Language, Literacy, Expressive Arts and Design, and Understanding the World.
