Head of school message
A very warm welcome back to all of our Nursery School children and families returning to us this September, and an equally warm welcome to all of the new children and families joining the Muriel Green community. We are so pleased to have you with us and hope you quickly feel at home.
A huge well done must also go to our wonderful Daycare team, who have had a fantastic summer with the children. While Nursery School has been closed for the holidays, Daycare has certainly been busy, with lots of fun, laughter, exciting experiences and special memories made along the way.
There is always something very special about the start of a new school year. We are so excited to have our Nursery School filled with children again and to begin another year together. We know the year ahead will bring new friendships, new experiences, plenty of learning and lots of those wonderful little moments that make Muriel Green such a special place to be.
We can’t wait to see what this year brings and to share the journey with all of our children and families.

Conker Room
Book & Rhyme of the week
Next week we will read a new story in Conker room. Car, Car, Truck, Jeep by Katrina Charman. This is a lovely rhyming story that takes us on a long car journey of discovery with lots of sounds and actions. This will support our Communication and Language as well as Understanding the World Developments as we will learn or consolidate new words.

Home Learning: Poking
This week we practised Poke for our Busy Fingers. At home we could:
. Poking a soft sponge with their index fingers.
. Using a lolly stick to poke holes in a sheet of kitchen paper stuck on the hollow side of a box.

Next week, our exciting Book of the Week will be Spot’s New Friend! We will be following Spot’s fun adventures as he meets someone new, which will spark wonderful conversations about making friends, sharing, and being kind (Personal, Social and Emotional Development).

Home Learning: Pick/Pinch
.This week our Busy Finger skill is Pick/Pinch. You can encourage your child to develop these skills during meal times, offering different sized food on their plate for them to pick up. Another activity which can support this might be putting dry cheerio's in a small pot.

Home Learning: Tidy-Up Treasure Hunt!
Make tidying fun! Ask your child to help find the toys that are “hiding” and return them to where they belong!
This helps children learn routines, follow simple instructions and understand that everything has a place.

Next week, our new Book of the Week will be Rosie’s Walk!
We will follow Rosie the hen on her funny walk around the farm, and giggle as we spot the sneaky fox following behind! This story is brilliant for exploring positional language like "over," "under," and "around" (Mathematics and Communication and Language).

Home Learning: Practise listening and following instructions with some fun games, such as an 'Action
Treasure Hunt' – Give instructions such as “Find something red,” “Bring me a spoon,” or “Find a teddy and put it on the sofa.” or 'Teddy’s Instructions' – Let your child give instructions to a teddy: “Put Teddy under the table,” “Give Teddy the cup,” or “Put Teddy to bed.”
When you finish playing turn tidying into a 'Toy Reset Game' : “Put the cars in the box, then bring me the books.” Start with one instruction and build up to two or three.
Success Story of the Week!
This week, the children chose to enjoy the story The Smeds and the Smoos again and again!
They loved the funny, unusual sounds and colourful pictures so much that they kept asking for it to be re-read.
Curiosity struck when one child asked, "Why is the baby purple?" This sparked a fantastic hands-on experiment, mixing blue and red paint to find out! The children were eager to explore with paints and brushes and were amazed to watch the colour purple appear right before their eyes.
Learning Outcome: This links beautifully to Expressive Arts and Design, specifically "Explore, use and refine a variety of artistic effects to express their ideas and feelings" and Understanding the World, exploring the natural world by "noticing similarities, differences, patterns, and change."

All absences must be reported to the school either by leaving an absence message or emailing admin@murielgreen.herts.sch.uk, We politely ask that if you plan to take your child out during school time, you notify the Nursery office. For appointments, we ask where possible that these are not during the school day. If this is not avoidable, please kindly share the relevant information for this appointment in order for us to be able to authorise this. Regular attendance at Nursery is very important, as it helps children build the foundational knowledge and skills they will need as they move through school. Establishing good attendance habits now supports a smoother transition into primary school and helps ensure children develop positive routines that will benefit them throughout their educational journey. Thank you for your continued support in helping your child attend regularly and on time.
