Head of school message

We have had great feedback from the ‘Supporting Early Writing’ packs that went out with some of our Nursery children before half-term. As part of our project on developing writing skills we will be sending home learning packs for children in Conker, Willow and those accessing Birch provision next week. Look out for these!!

Story bags

We're delighted to see the enthusiasm with which your children are engaging with the story bags we provide for home use. These bags are a wonderful tool to encourage love for stories and enhance learning through play. We kindly ask for your cooperation in ensuring that all props and resources in the story bags are returned intact. This helps us maintain these valuable resources for continuous enjoyment by all children. Thank you for your support and understanding.

The Tiger Who Came to Tea _ Kerr_____edi

Conker Room
Book & Rhyme of the week

This week, we will continue to immerse ourselves in our Book of the Week: The Tiger Who Came to Tea by Judith Kerr. This delightful story has captured the children’s imagination, and we’re excited to explore it further through storytelling, creative play, and themed activities that support early literacy and communication skills.

Our Keywords are "Eat", "Tiger", and "Empty".

Our Rhyme this week is "Incy Wincy Spider"

Home Learning: Zone of regulations (Emotions)

As you go through your day, talk to your child about how they may be feeling. Try to name their emotions clearly and simply, linking it to the Zones of Regulation. For example:

  • "You’re smiling! You look happy – that’s in the green zone."

  • "I can see you’re crying. You feel sad – that’s in the blue zone."

  • "You’re jumping and shouting! You might feel excited – that’s in the yellow zone."

  • "It’s okay to feel cross. That’s the red zone – let’s have a cuddle."

Keep your tone calm and reassuring. Repeat words like happy, sad, angry, tired, excited, and frustrated often so they become familiar.

This classic tale is a fantastic way to support early language development, imagination, and a love for reading

Our Rhyme this week is "Alice the Camel"

Home Learning: Can you play Peek-a-boo and hide like the animals in the Gruffalo story?

Try hiding behind a cushion, a blanket, or even peeking out from behind a door—just like the fox, owl, and snake in the story! This game helps develop your child’s understanding of object permanence and supports early communication.

We are thrilled to announce an upcoming farm visit at the nursery! To prepare your child and enhance their learning experience, we encourage you to engage in some fun farm-related activities at home. Here are a few ideas:

Take some time to look through books or watch videos about farm animals. Identify different animals and discuss their characteristics and sounds.

This week, we will be continuing to explore  book "Owl Babies by Martin Waddell". The story follows three baby owls—Sarah, Percy, and Bill—as they worry about their missing mother, only to be comforted when she returns. To make the story engaging for our children, we will be using a slightly shorter version of the text, brought to life through a sensory story. A sensory story uses a combination of words and rich sensory experiences—such as textures, sounds, scents, and visual elements—to help children connect with the narrative in a meaningful way.

Our rhyme of the week is "Hickory Dickory dock"

Home Learning:  We will be using woodland themed resources when reading our book Owl Babies.

You might take to walk with your child in the local park or wooden area. Encourage them to observe the different types of trees, listen for the sounds of birds, and feel the textures of various natural elements like leaves, feathers, and bark

Success Story of the Week!

This week in the Conker Room, we celebrated a delightful success linked to our story of the week, "The Tiger Who Came to Tea." Inspired by the tale, the children eagerly participated in a hands-on culinary activity where they made their very own sandwiches with butter and jam. This not only reinforced key themes from the story but also offered a wonderful opportunity for the children to develop their fine motor skills and promote independence. The joy and pride on their faces as they spread the butter and jam were delightful to witness, making this activity a truly special moment in our week
